~ excerpts from the book The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin
the ability to look deeply
is the root of creativity
the more raw data we can take in
and the less we shape it
the closer we get to nature
no matter what tools you use to create
the true instrument is you
and through you
the universe that surrounds us
all comes into focus
great art is created through
freedom of self-expression
and received with
freedom of individual interpretation
the real work of the artist
is a way of being in the world
artist allows us to see
what we are unable to see
but somewhat already know
artist's perception reminds us of
who we are and who we can be
art creates a profound connection
through the artist and the audience
through that connection
both can heal
some things are too important
to be taken seriously
art is one of those things
